"Chinese Noblewoman w/ Lotus Flowers & Orchids", Art Deco Painting, Pink & Blue
About the Item
Brilliantly painted in deep pink, sky blue and ivory tones, this 1936-vintage oil painting depicts a Chinese noblewoman in an embroidered gown and elaborate headpiece, flanked by symbols of longevity, peace and purity. The stylized figure and rich colors are suggestive of the work of Joseph Stella, but in this case the painting is by F. Lipschutz. To the left of the figure are a pair of herons or cranes, and to the right is a carved plant stand holding a rich array of orchids. Her gown is embroidered with lotus flowers, and the entire scene is suffused with dignity and quiet. The painting is oil on canvas. Dimensions include frame.
