About the Item
Monumental oil on canvas from 1927 by french artist Georges Conrad in its wooden frame with gold leaf.
Georges Conrad (24 February 1874, Aubervilliers - 7 December 1936, Rouen) was a French painter, illustrator and caricaturist. Gifted in drawing, he was admitted to the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris and later became a teacher at the school.
This painting is a tribute to the famous five-masted sailing ship from the French Merchant Navy known as "France II", a merchant ship that was the largest sailing ship in the world for 77 years.
This ship belonging to the French Marine and Trading Company sank on the night of July 11-12, 1922, in New Caledonia.
