"Creation of Man, " Important Painting of Adam in Garden of Eden by Colacicchi
About the Item
Beautifully painted by Giovanni Colacicchi in rich, verdant colors, this depiction of a nude, youthful Adam figure in the midst of the Garden of Eden, accompanied by God in a hooded, white robe, is a lovely example of the figural and landscape paintings the artist is known for. Colacicchi loved to depict Italy's hills and farms, sometimes populated by nude figures -- both male and female -- including perhaps his best work, "The Shame of Noah." Importantly, the "Creation of Man" was made in 1947 and exhibited in Sweden in 1955, with a catalogue featuring a preface by Bernard Berenson, the famed Renaissance painting authority. Berenson had advised a myriad of wealthy collectors, dealers and museums over the course of his lifetime -- including Isabella Stewart Gardner and Joseph Duveen -- and toward the end of his life he had befriended Colacicchi and was happy to recommend his work to the public. The work is oil on canvas. (Dimensions include the frame.).
