Early 19th Century Italian School Memento Mori Oil on Canvas Welcome Death
About the Item
A almost life size depiction of a human skeleton holding a length of chain, with a banner at the base.
We believe the piece to be Italian from the language used within the banner, its only partly legible but appears to be a typical memento mori motto of welcoming death.
It would appear the piece has been relined at some point in its life, some elderly repairs and plenty of losses and abrasions to the surface of the painting but what remains is perfectly adhered to the canvas.
Framed in a simple thin gilt wood frame, 19th century in age, possibly 18th
