About the Item

An antique white matte all under glass. The sight measurements are 19”h x 25”w., framed measurements are 29”h x 35”w x 1.5”d. Very good, well maintained condition. Edwin C. Siegfried was born in Alameda, CA on Feb. 18, 1889 into a pioneer California family. Edwin's father was a prosperous tea importer and a partner of Max and Joseph Brandenstein (founders of MJB Coffee). The family estate in Alameda at 2044 Alameda Avenue was complete with stables, tennis courts, and greenhouses to hold the family's orchid collection. During WWI Edwin served in the infantry. Upon returning home he began painting without the benefit of art training. Initially he worked in oils but soon abandoned that medium in favor of pastels. Reared in affluence, the artist cared little for money or social postition and for many years maintained a home and studio in the attic at 1819 Central Avenue in Alameda From askArt.

  • Joel D'Orazio Polyurethane on Mahogany Board Titled "Peacock"
    Located in Chicago, IL
Colorful work of abstract art by Joel D'Orazio using non-conventional mediums. Polyurethane toned in various colors then applied to a beautifully grained piece of mahogany board. The result resembles the plumage of a peacock. Joel D'Orazio began his career as an architect in the 1970s then in the latter part of the century began using art as a means of meditation, The images are uncommon, yet suggest the familiar forms of nature. Although the paintings are varied in color and composition, each image is part of a logical yet highly intuitive progression of work.
