About the Item

Eva Lucille Kirchner Mid-Century Modern abstract painting Offered for sale is an Eva Lucille Kirchner (American 1901-1991) original Mid Century Modern abstract Op-Art acrylic painting on board. The painting I signed by the artist in the lower right corner and is displayed in what appears to be the original frame with a linen liner. Measures: 23.5" W x 1" D x 31.5" H. actual painting 20" x 28". Eva Lucille “Eo” Kirchner was born in Rich Hill, Missouri in 1901. She studied at the Denver Academy of Art, the University of Denver, the Art Institute of Chicago, Columbia, and the University of Southern California. She was a student of noted Denver sculptor Gladys Caldwell Fisher and exhibited frequently with Fisher in the early days of the Denver Artists’ Guild. Beginning in 1944 she taught for several years at the University of Denver. In 1948 she was a founding member of 15 Colorado Artists, a group of modernists that broke from the more traditional Denver Artists’ Guild. Kirchner worked in terra cotta, wood, plaster and occasionally in bronze. She also threw pots, painted in oil and executed many prints. Witty and sometimes scathing, Kirchner was also deeply religious and accepted many ecclesiastical commissions. She produced a book, America’s Past – Sentinels of our Founding Fathers, about historic church art and architecture, and many of her serigraphs had religious themes. Kirchner felt that spirituality was not in conflict with Modernism and demonstrated her beliefs in her work.
