About the Item
An original oil on canvas abstract composition by well-listed American artist Gino Hollander (California/Colorado/Spain; 1924 – 2015). Executed in white, ochre, browns and black, it features swathes of angular palette knife work overlaid with thin washes and drips and paint apparently applied with sponge. It is signed to the lower right and dated 1976. The painting is mounted in a narrow natural finish wood frame and is wired for hanging.

- Condition:Wear consistent with age and use. This painting is in very nice vintage condition with minor wear due to age. Some minor scuffs to painting-nothing noticeable. The wooden frame has some scratches and dings again nothing serious.

Gino Hollander
Born in 1924 in Newark, NJ, Gino Hollander attended Rutgers University before serving in the U.S. Army’s Mountain Division Ski Troop during World War II. Hollander had a successful career as a documentary filmmaker throughout the 1950s. In 1960, he decided to focus on painting after becoming friends with Abstract Expressionist painters at the Cedar Tavern. He died at the age of 91 in 2015 in Newport Beach, CA.
