About the Item
An early and important painting by renowned Grand Rapids artist Armand Merizon, this work depicts a ghostly figure -- reputedly the son of a dear family friend -- in the midst of the natural landscape Merizon loved. Although the artist lived most of his life in a part of western Michigan which exhibits gentle slopes and inclines, this setting shows a more dramatic topography, and may reflect a visit to another part of the region. The artist was a prominent member of the West Michigan Eight, a regional group of artists that painted and exhibited in the galleries and museums of Grand Rapids and Muskegon. The medium is oil on Masonite.
