About the Item
Of the present painting, the artist writes: "The model for this half-sized nude was posed so as to supply not only an extended study of the undraped figure, but the study of an Old Master's thought processes: the pose, a contrapposto with the left leg engaged and left arm bent up towards the shoulder, is modeled directly on Michelangelo's 'David' but traces its antecedents through Western art, deriving ultimately from the Canon of Polykleitos."
About the Artist -- Raised in Wooster, Ohio, Kendric Tonn achieved his Bachelor’s at The University of the South at Sewanee, Tennessee before studying painting and drawing at Savannah College of Art & Design and The Florence Academy of Art in Italy. A lifelong passion for literature and writing informs Tonn’s work. He particularly draws inspiration from contemporary authors as well as traditional motifs including Classical mythology, Biblical themes, and history.
