About the Item

"Holy Family with a Saint (oil on copper)" Date: 17th century Medium: Oil on copper Dimensions: Frame: 36 x 29 cm Plate (copper): 27 x 20 cm Description: A beautifully crafted 17th-century oil on copper painting depicting the Holy Family with the Virgin Mary, the Infant Jesus, Saint Joseph, and a kneeling Franciscan saint—perhaps Saint Francis of Assisi or Saint Anthony of Padua. The scene is rendered with great care in color, drapery, and expression, typical of devotional works of the Baroque period. Painted on a copper plate, this work demonstrates the luminosity and detail permitted by this prized medium, appreciated by the Flemish and Italian masters of the period. The composition evokes both intimacy and contemplation, set against a serene pastoral background. Provenance: An inscription on the reverse attributes ownership to Don Francisco Mateos Gago, an iconic figure in 19th-century Spanish ecclesiastical and academic circles.

16th Century Oil on Canvas Tuscan School Antique Religious Painting Holy Family
Located in Vicoforte, Piedmont
Great Italian painting from the second half of the 16th century. Oil on canvas painting depicting a Holy Family from the Tuscan school of remarkable pictorial quality. We find the typical stylistic features of the Renaissance with a wonderful pyramidal composition, a refined chromatic palette and particular attention to the drapery. In the center is the Madonna with the baby Jesus in her arms who reaches out toward Saint John the Baptist with a lamb at his side, a symbol of Christ's sacrifice. At the top left we see Saint Joseph sleeping...
