About the Item

Large oil on canvas representing the Holy Trinity. It is painted here as a Throne of Grace, vertically, with Jesus dead on the Cross, or supported by God the Father, with the Holy Spirit between or above them (the dove). Spain, 17th c. Re- lined, unframed. The Christian doctrine of the Trinity is the central doctrine concerning the nature of God in most Christian churches, which defines one God existing in three coequal, coeternal, consubstantial divine persons: God the Father, God the Son (Jesus Christ) and God the Holy Spirit, three distinct persons (hypostases) sharing one essence/substance/nature .
