About the Item

Painter of ruins xviii century: "capriccio with classical ruins and four figures" , pendant with "capriccio with classical ruins and three figures" Oil on canvas cm 140 x 95 The sets of this pictorial genre, called "ruins", were usually animated with different characters and stories, a typical theme among these is the capriccio with ruins and orator of which this painting is an example: a reciting figure observed by an audience, all placed in their arcadian dimension. Among the imaginary archaeological fragments is the pyramid of Caius Cestius in the background. Of valuable quality this work conducted with mastery, the painting is made with warm tones and refined luministic contrasts that run on the reliefs of the architectures. Active painter in the second half of 1700, directly influenced by the work of landscape masters such as Marco Ricci and Giovanni Paolo Pannini, the latter a teacher at the Academy of San Luca in Rome in the second decade of the eighteenth century. The landscape is pictorially impeccable in the luministic research and in the realization of the architectural elements taken from the Roman forums. A bay and in the foreground the characters that evoke the ancient splendor witnessed by the ruins that here are the indisputable protagonists.
