Architectural Capriccio of Roman Ancient Ruins with Figures

About the Item

Architectural Capriccio of Roman Ancient Ruins with Figures. Italian, 18th century large painting in oil on canvas is from the school of Giovanni Paolo Panini and a fine example of architectural fantasy. It is an excellent, quality work. Although the settings for the ancient buildings and sculptures are imaginary, they are designed to charm rather than describe. The ruins are enlivened with colorful figures. The artist’s ability to use perspective and the skillful rendering of building materials, such as the realistic column marbles, make this painting a masterpiece. Condition is very good. There are three small old patches in the back. Provenance: Private collection, New York Measurements: Painting - W 43” x H 32” Framed - W 49” x H 38” x D 1.75”.
