This wonderful piece is visually stunning. The artist uses traditional Academic Realism to create this portrait of motherhood. He is evoking a narrative through the sense of passing time. The scene captures domestic life at a delightful and intimate moment between mother and child. The palette is complex with a wonderful blending of colors. The work is housed in a period frame of very fine quality. The painting is signed in front and back, “H. Valkenburg“.
