Member of the Imperial Art Academy [Main awards] 1957 (Showa 32) Received the Order of Culture. [Biography, style, etc.] Joined Takeuchi Seiho at the age of 14, and later graduated from Kyoto School of Arts and Crafts. During that time, he won third prize at the Japan Art Association Exhibition in 1898 for his ``Falconry Figure,'' and second prize for ``Yoshimitsu Battle Figure'' at the first National Painting Exhibition in 1899. In 1935, he became a professor at his alma mater, Kyoto College of Art, and in 1942 he held the position of assistant professor at Kyoto City Painting College. In 1936, he exhibited his work at the 5th National Industrial Exhibition, and in 1940, he exhibited ``Ganghan Palace'' at the 1st Bunten, where it won third prize. He also won third prize in the 9th ``Farmer'', followed by ``Cherry Blossom Viewing'' in the 3rd, ``Blue Field'' in the 6th, and ``Mulberry Picking'' in the 8th. The following year, at the 10th edition, he won consecutive special awards for ``Shuko no Onna'', 11th ``Short Night'', and 12th ``Rakubai'', and suddenly became the top artist in the Kyoto art world. Afterwards, he established Seikosha, a private school, and worked hard to teach younger students. His disciples included Daizaburo Nakamura, Insho Domoto, and Matsukou Uemura, among many others who later became active figures in the Kyoto art world. His style of painting closely followed that of Seiho, and he specialized in paintings of flowers, birds, and animals. His representative works include ``Horse'' and ``Komainu.'' This work is painted by hand and on silk. The box is a combined box. The paper has some small stains, wrinkles, and creases, but is generally in good condition. After Chikuden's death, Chokunyu took up an intense study of imported Chinese paintings." Paul Berry in: Literati Modern, p.136.) - The certificate box was inscribed by Tajika Chikuson (1864-1922), one of Chokunyu's key disciples.
