Authentic work ◆ Shuson Kono ◆ Illustrated landscape of the literati ◆ Shared box ◆ Landscape ◆ Ehime Prefecture ◆ Handpainted ◆ Silk ◆ Hanging scroll ◆ Kōno Shūson (1890-1987) was one of those who devoted themselves to the promotion of Nanga (a school of Japanese painting inspired by Chinese painting that flourished after the mid-Edo period) after leaving for Kyōto at the age of 18 to thoroughly study Nanga. At the beginning of his studies of Nanga, he could only study it in Japan with copies. He, however, had absorbed the techniques of expression, in addition to many other subjects such as landscapes, kachō (flower and bird), and human figures, which were reflected in his works since he visited China for the first time in 1923, followed by many additional trips. He also served as the president of the Japan Nanga Institute, where he taught the next generation of artists. Shuson Kono 1890 (Meiji 23 ) - 1987 (Showa 62) ) [Birthplace/Teacher] Born in Ehime Prefecture Teacher: Takeson Tajika [Brief history/style etc.] After studying under Takeson Tajika, a southern painter in Kyoto, ``Natsuu Shinpei'' was first published at the 11th Bunten in 1917. After being selected, in 1921 he formed Nippon Nangain with his teacher and Tomioka Tessai, and since then he has repeatedly exhibited at the Teiten and Shinbunten exhibitions, and in 1960, Nihon Nangain was approved as an incorporated association. and assumed the position of chairman. He was awarded the Third Class Order of the Sacred Treasure in 1975, demonstrating his success as a representative of the prewar to postwar Nanga artists. He was best at drawing detailed landscapes and portraits inherited from Shitake Son. This work is a ``Yusei-shu-kazu-zu'' drawn by hand and on silk. The box is the same box. The paper has some small stains and wrinkles, but is generally in good condition.
