Joachim Probst Signed Mid-Century Modern NY Art Mixed Media Female Nude Painting

About the Item

A fantastic and quite alluring original mixed media painting on card stock by New York Greenwich Village artist Joachim (Jack) Probst (1913–1980). The female nude work is titled "Christmas" The work is signed, titled and dated (1954) by Probst on the verso. A self taught artist, Probst was a bohemian in Greenwich Village from 1936 to the mid 1970s. His peers during this time included the likes of Jackson Pollock, Willem de Kooning and Franz Kline who he formed a close bond with. Probst was known for two different distinct styles of art - figurative expressionism in which he presented the Crucifixion and Biblical scenes and black ink wash paintings which grew to become an extensive series he called the Night Works. By his death in 1980, much of his work had been placed in storage. It wasn't until over 30 years later that his work was rediscovered and the conversation about his place in the 20th century Abstract Expressionism Art world was reignited. A unique one of a kind work. Would be a great addition to any collectors of Probst's work or Mid-Century art or make for an eye catching stand alone accent artwork in about any setting.
