About the Item

This large original oil on canvas painting portrays a boy in the field with cows. Look closely at the boy, who appears to be whittling a stick with a knife while he looks over the grazing cattle. It is not surprise that the painter is known for his realistic landscapes and animal paintings. Poul Steffensen (1866-1923) was born in Vejerslev, Denmark. He additionally worked as an illustrator as well. Signed and dated 1915. This large painting is in good condition commensurate with age, canvas may benefit from a light cleaning. The gold frame shows nicks, marks, missing gold in particular along lower center (reference photos). Sold in original vintage condition.
