About the Item
Oil painting on canvas, framed in a carved and ebonized wooden guilloché frame, enhanced with burl wood inserts that accentuate its elegance. The painting depicts a half-naked woman reclining on a sumptuous sofa. A light pink veil covers her legs and lower body, leaving her breasts and waist exposed. Her gaze, playful and seductive, is directed toward the viewer and the artist. The woman, leaning on her right hand, also has her hair pulled back toward her face, a typical hairstyle of the period. Curtains can be seen on the back. The scene is distinguished by its masterful pictorial rendering and the skillful use of light and shadow. At the bottom right is the dedication "To Lucas D'Aprèo" and the signature of the artist "Tanoux," a renowned French Art Nouveau painter renowned for his female nudes. The painting can be dated around the end of the 19th century.
