Signed by J.E. Gourgue, noted Haitian painter, this large scale artwork is destined for a major collection, a culinary enthusiast or even a restaurant. Pig Head Salad is one of Haiti's most famous delicacies. And, every part of the cow is used as well. Just look at the detail in the costume! And, the size! She is almost a life size portrait! This is Gourgue's social realism at it's most compelling. She seems headed to celebrate a traditional event, with a scant 50c remaining. Meanwhile, she is also at the intersection of the modern with a gorgeous blue pants and shirt rather than traditional dress or costume. Quite compelling as a work of art and also as a subject.
