Description :

Biography of Miçao Kono (1900-1960):
A compatriot and student of the renowned painter Léonard Foujita, Miçao Kono arrived in Paris in the 1920s. He quickly gained recognition for his sensual female nudes, skillfully blending Japanese artistic traditions with a Western modernist Art Deco influence.
Celebrated among art collectors for his portraits of women, nudes, and floral compositions, he exhibited at the Georges Bernheim Gallery from 1929. In 1930, he was awarded the Nikwa Prize, the Tokyo equivalent of Paris' Salon d’Automne.
In 1933, he participated in the Salon des Indépendants, where his "porcelain nudes" and a striking depiction of a Japanese woman in a red costume drew considerable attention. His oil paintings stand out for their lightness, pastel tones reminiscent of Marie Laurencin’s palette, and their distinctive brilliance.
This shine, combined with a crackled effect, was achieved by mixing the paint with egg white, a technique that gives the impression of delicate fragility.

"Siamese Twins, " Fabulous Art Deco Portrait with Siamese Cat and Female Figure
Located in Philadelphia, PA
The artist behind this striking and original Art Deco portrait -- Agnes Tait -- is clearly emphasizing the parallels between a female figure and her Siamese cat, both shown with heavily-shadowed blue eyes and short, dark hair, the feline crouching familiarly on the shoulder of her companion. Because Tait painted a series of portraits for Florenz Ziegfeld of the young women who performed in the Ziegfeld Follies in 1932, it's possible that the figure here was one of her subjects. The woman is wearing an elegant black gown that bares her upper chest, and the background is a lovely shade of reddish purple. Tait was a native New Yorker, studying in her youth at the National Academy of Design under Leon Kroll and others, before becoming a WPA painter in the 1930s. She painted a series of tropical scenes for the United Fruit Company...
