About the Item
Beautiful flower still life, painted with soft pastels on paper, by the Belgium female artist Simone Dujardin. Signed and dated (1944) left under. The painting has a lively use of bright colors. The porcelain and book provides a nice balance in the composition. The painting is framed behind glass, for protection of the pastel. In a beautiful carved gold leaf wooden frame.

Dimensions painting: 38 x 43 cm
Simone Dujardin was a Pupil of Firmin Baes. Painted mainly with pastel, flowers, figures, portraits, still life and animals. Mentioned in the press: "Her art exudes zest for life and happiness, it is the work of a happy woman expressing the charm and richness of life (1954)". Exhibited in Le petite Galerie in Brussels. Possibly the work of Jean Esme Oregon Cooke RA was an English painter of still lifes, landscapes, portraits and figures. She was a lecturer at the Royal Academy and regularly exhibited her works, including the summer Royal Academy exhibitions. She was commissioned to make portraits by Lincoln College and St Hilda's College, Oxford. Her works are in the National Gallery, Tate and the Royal Academy collections. In the early years of her marriage, she signed her works Jean Bratby.
