About the Item
A wonderful example of a vintage, mid-century still-life: a soft, harmonious color-scheme and a natural subject that has, together with the background, been interpreted in a graphic style. A calm yet interesting piece of original art that will easily fit and embellish a contemporary interior.
The painting has been sourced in Alsace, France and is most likely made by a French artist painting under the signature of A.M. (see lower right corner). The painting is not dated but considering its overall condition, it most likely dates from around the 1950s.
The painting is sold in its original wood frame. The frame is made of solid wood and has been painted grey with a thin white liner also in wood. The frame has a distressed yet sophisticated look that enhances the paintings visual appeal. It is worth mentioning the crafted/hand-made character of the wood stretcher and the brown canvas (see back). This is clearly not a commercially, pre-fabricated stretcher. In addition, the frame has been carefully fitted into the frame with the help of extra cardboard liners and bits of cork (see photos).
In good vintage condition. The painting has not been cleaned, I leave that decision up to the new owner. There are no structural issues. The stretched canvas is in good condition: no holes, no scratches. Both the painting and the frame only show minor wear consistent with use and age (see photos).
