About the Item
An authentic and unique kinetic painting thin and subtle gouache on wood panel, Abstract Geometric, Op-Art, Kinetic composition of orange and blue shades through thin complex architectural structures, creating a paradoxal open and closed / warm and cold, vibrating effect, entitled "Structure Ambigue B.R.", signed Jean-Pierre Yvaral on the bottom, and dated 1968, France.
We had a collection of several wide size paintings on canvas by Jean-Pierre Yvaral, including some of his major achievement and auction results, but none was so strong in therms of colors, neither thin and complex in therms of graphic structures and precision. All this to say, we kept this piece, wich has a great provenance from the collection of a famous parisian advocate in the seventies, in our collection over years and it is now our last Yvaral, because we were convinced it was the best painting by Yvaral of all those we had, and we bring it on sale now.

Yvaral (Jean-Pierre Vasarely)
Yvaral is Victor Vasarely's son, but he deserves to be considered an artist in his own right. Jean-Pierre Yvaral is one of the founders in 1960 of the GRAV movement with François Morellet, Horacio Garcia Rossi, Julio le Parc and Joël Stein. This movement advocated accessible art for the viewer. The latter could, in certain cases, touch and manipulate certain works. The GRAV was publicly launched in 1963, in a manifesto “Enough mystifications” on the occasion of the third Paris Biennale.

Victor Vasarely (French/Hungarian, 1906–1997) is known as the father of the Op Art movement. As a painter, he created intricate abstractions that suggested depth and dimensionality using a variety of optical illusions, with surfaces seeming to bulge out of the canvas. His works present color, form, and pattern as a single interconnected element—a concept that was critical to the foundation of the Op Art movement and the focus of his mature works.
Vasarely initially studied medicine at the Budapest University in his early 20s, only to abandon his medical studies to attend to the Muhely Academy, the center of the Bauhaus movement in Budapest. While there, he was profoundly influenced by the work of color theorist and artist Josef Albers, as well as the Constructivist methods promoted by artists such as Wassily Kandinsky. While Vasarely’s earlier work was concerned more with color theory, during the 1950s and 1960s his work became more focused on the optical potential of the two-dimensional surface. He began to use complex and colorful patterns to actively engage the viewer’s eye, and to convey a sense of kinetic energy across the two-dimensional surface.
Vasarely’s work was heavily influenced by his time spent at Breton Beach of Belle Isle...
