About the Item

Created by Andre Margat in 1929, this gouache pastel painting depicts two baboons with bright and vivid colors. The vibrant red, orange and yellow tones; The baboons themselves have jet black fur with white accents, giving them a realistic presence within the work. It is signed "A. Margat 29" in the lower right corner. It hails from the animalier artist Art Deco era, a period when painters began to focus more on animals than humans as subjects. This particular work is especially noteworthy for its bold use of color and detail, depicting these two simians in a natural manner. Made in France.
