Pair of French paintings "Urban Scenes" by Jean Yves Herbin, 1991
About the Item
Exceptional pair of oil paintings on canvas featuring two views of elegant homes in broad daylight. They are titled The Shadow of the Tree on the White Facade and The House with the Blue Door.
Both feature a distinctive composition, adopting a complex perspective, avoiding the buildings from the front. "The Shadow of the Tree on the White Facade" is divided into two vertical halves. The left panel shows the white wall on the side of the building, projecting the shadow of the tree, with only a few branches visible. The right panel shows the blue fence surrounding the house, which displays some classically inspired ornamentation, such as the fluted pilasters and the drops decorating the cornice.
“The House with the Blue Door,” on the other hand, shows the entrance to another house, with slate roofs in a bluish hue that matches the intense blue of the fence and stands out against the white of the façade, illuminated by the bright midday light. Colored shadows also contribute to this bluish atmosphere, all punctuated by the green touches of the vegetation. The most notable features of this façade are the voussoir frames surrounding the openings and the imitation of the Renaissance-inspired quoining on the wall that supports the exterior fence.
These pendant works were created expressly to be exhibited together, as a pair, which gives them greater expressive power. Both are signed and dated.

French Painting "Dahlias and Camellias" Paul Bazé, midcentury France
By Paul Robert Brock
Located in Valladolid, ES
Impressive and very beautiful oil on panel made by Paul Robert Bazé, an artist of French origin. It represents a still life with a bouquet of flowers in the foreground on a dark background. It mainly shows dahlias and camellias, which give the work its name. The traditional still life genre shows its evolution here. It presents the characteristic style of the genre to which it corresponds, realistic and meticulous, especially noticeable in the way it works with the different qualities of the flowers and leaves. The dark background is also inherited from the still life genre, with a marked dark interest reflected in the dark backgrounds. Signed in the lower left corner.
Paul Robert Bazé (1901-1985) was born in Paris, although he soon moved to Bayonne and then to Bordeaux, where he was a student of Paul Quinsac...
