About the Item
A wonderful example of Art Deco painting by William Hentschel, this depiction of a pink ostrich near a purple flowering plant has the feeling of 1930s and 40s animation such as Disney's "Fantasia." Hentschel was one of Rookwood Pottery's most celebrated artisans, decorating many of its finest vases in his distinctive Art Deco manner, but he also made a number of paintings in the 1930s. Hentschel also helped form Kenton Hills pottery, which operated for a short time in a facility in northern Kentucky, across the Ohio River from Cincinnati. (Dimensions include matte and frame; visible painting is 13.5 inches high by 15.25 inches wide).
