About the Item
A very attractive Post Impressionist still life depicting potted flowers & fruit.
Oil on canvas, signed bottom centre and again on the reverse, together with title & dated 1982. Framed within what appears to be its original gallery frame and linen matt.
Dimensions, (sight) 15.75" high x 19.25" wide, (framed) 22.75" high x 26.75" wide.
William Showell (1903-1984) was born in England where he studied at the Liverpool School of Fine Art. After moving to Canada in 1961 he then focused on working full time as a professional artist and soon was invited for his first solo exhibition in 1966 at the Montreal Museum of Fine Art.
He worked in the Post Impressionist style, using subtle earth tones and somewhat diffused compositions, and is best known for his portraits, street scenes & still life paintings.
