About the Item

A Belgian signed Joost-Vincent De Vos oil on canvas dog painting from the 19th century depicting hounds and a young boy near a pond. Created in the 19th century by animal painter Joost-Vincent De Vos (1829-1875), this oil on canvas painting depicts a serene scene: Our eyes are indeed immediately drawn to the two hounds standing near a pond, one of them drinking, the other one observing. A young boy, facing away from us on the left, is sitting surrounded by three peaceful dogs. He seems to be going through the satchel wrapped around his shoulders, perhaps to find a snack for everyone. The composition is perfectly balanced between the open sky responding to the water in the front, and the darker presence of the woods. Set inside an antique giltwood frame and signed lower right, this De Vos animal painting will be an excellent decorative addition to any wall. perhaps anchoring a commode, console table or credenza.
