Offered for sale is a beautifully executed super-realism still-life painting by James Eddie. The painting is signed in the lower left and dated 1995. The work is displayed in a deep wood framed with a gilt fillet.
The artist was born in Cape Town South Africa in 1916. In 1950, he left South Africa for Europe and spent 2 years studying works of art in Italy and Greece. In 1952 he moved to England and began painting portraits and holding exhibitions at The Royal Society of London. Eddie follows a realistic tradition as influenced by the early Netherlands School, Renaissance painters, and contemporary American realists such as Andrew Wyeth. His life was totally dedicated to painting.
