Here is a wonderful treasure of art history! This work was displayed alongside Max Ernst at the Arizona State Fair in the Fine Arts building in 1958! Ernst moved to Sedona, Arizona in 1946 because of persecution from the French for being German and the Nazis for being anti-Nazi. He loved the desert and the creativity it spurred, and regularly entered works in the Arizona State Fair and inspired a whole generation of artists!
Raima painted this as a young college student and her water color was chosen to be displayed next to the already well known Max Ernst at the Arizona State Fair, in the Fine Arts Building.
This work has both a fascinating beauty and magnetism. Raima was a dancer as well as an artist. This knowledge of the female anatomy comes through strongly with everything looking "right" even when painted in abstraction! It takes the inherent elegance of "Swan Lake" and brings it forth with a primal beauty.
Raima's artworks are extremely rare as she focused more on dance and her young family as time went forward. As an artist, she was very confident of her skills and the value of her works. She priced this work in 1958 at $90. This translates to about $965 today.
