About the Item
Executed in gorgeous shades of deep pink, dove gray and olive, this scene of two nude women perched on folding chairs was painted by Dorothy Van Loan, a celebrated modernist from Philadelphia. She named it, somewhat mysteriously, "Of Truth or Consequences," clearly referring to the radio and television show that started in 1940. Van Loan won many prizes and medals in the 1920s, 30s and 40s, and exhibited widely, including at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in 1935, when this painting was finished, and at the Revsin Gallery. The painting is signed and retains an exhibition label on the reverse.
