Pair of Antique Hand-Painted Porcelain Sailor Portrait Plaques in 9ct Gold Mounts, English, Circa 1900
This evocative pair of antique portrait plaques features finely hand-painted images of rugged seafaring men, each smoking a pipe and dressed in traditional maritime attire. Richly expressive and executed with delicate attention to tone and character, these miniatures capture the spirit of the sea and the romanticism of the sailor's life.
Each portrait is painted on a circular porcelain plaque, set within a polished 9ct gold surround and suspension loop. The gold fittings are clearly hallmarked “9ct”, confirming their authenticity. These pieces may have originally served as medallions, pendants, or fob ornaments and now make for striking decorative objects or collectible curiosities.
