Nobuyoshi Araki Signed Limited Edition Sexual Desire Portfolio I Complete Set

About the Item

A very engaging and alluring set of fifteen photographs by famed controversial Japanese photographer and contemporary artist Nobuyoshi Araki from his 2000 highly sexually charged Sexual Desire Portfolio I. Araki is best known for his provocative works that merge elements of eroticism and fine art, frequently exploring themes of intimacy, sexuality, and the fleeting nature of life. This limited edition portfolio (only 30 in total were published) comprises the complete set (quite rare as few complete sets exist today) of fifteen offset prints on watercolor paper and is published by Taka Ishii Editions, Tokyo. The collection of photographs is based on his 1996 exhibition Serie Sexual which was first presented as a large wall installation by the Frankfurter Kunstverein as well as the MMK Museum für Moderne Kunst in Frankfurt. Each photograph is hand-signed and numbered (10/30) in pencil by Araki on the verso. Would be a great addition to any contemporary photography or Japanese Art collection or admirers of Araki's work. Araki's work can be found in many prominent collections and museums including: Israel Museum, Jerusalem Tate, London, UK San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, San Francisco, CA, USA Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago, USA Art Institute of Chicago, USA The National Science and Media Museum, Bradford, UK The Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam Museum für Moderne Kunst, Frankfurt Goetz Collection, Munich, Germany Awards include: 1964: Taiyo Prize for photo reportage, Japan 1964: Sun Prize, Japan 1990: Society of Photography Award, Japan 1991: 7th Higashikawa Prize. 1994: Japan Inter-Design Forum Grand Prix. 2008: Austrian Decoration for Science and Art Box/case dimensions: 1.25" high, 13" wide, 9.75" deep.
