Details:
The magazine Le Chat noir was sold between 1882 and 1897 to promote the Montmartre cabaret of the same name created by Aristide Bruant.
An emblematic satirical weekly of the Butte, libertarian, absurd and offbeat, it offered literary texts, poems, advertisements and stories in images without captions. It was printed at the time in 19,000 copies each week and sold on Saturdays.
On the poster, a woman with shaggy hair sits in front of a cat who seems to be playing with a ball of wool.
