Original Vintage Poster for Circuit Francais Peugeot created by Mich in 1911. Artist: Mich (1881-1923) Title: Circuit Français Peugeot Date: 1911 Size: 63 x 46.9 in. / 160 x 119 cm. Printer : Imp L. Revon et Cie, 93 rue Oberkampf, Paris Materials and Techniques: Colour lithograph on paper Linen backing: Yes Condition: A - (Normally designates a poster in very good condition. Colours are fresh and there is very little or no paper loss. Any imperfections are marginal and unnoticeable). Additional Details: Poster made by Mich for the "Circuit Français Peugeot" race in 1911. In the foreground is a lion, emblem of the Peugeot brand and symbol of courage and strength. At his side is a Marianne, symbol of freedom. She wears a Phrygian cap and holds an olive branch, a symbol of peace. Mich shows here his talents as a caricaturist, with the representation of 6 cyclists who ran during this unique race in 16 stages reserved for independents. The main competitors of the Circuit Français Peugeot in 1911: Émile Wirtz, Philippe Thys, Oskar Egg, René Guénot, Bétemps, Pierre Vugé, Gabriel Figuet, Marcel Baumler, (René?) Pichon, Gomila, (François?) Guéguen, Émile Engel, Francois Julien, Léon Valloton, etc. The final podium of the circuit was won by Philippe Thys (1st), Gabriel Figuet (2nd), Léon Vallotton (3rd). In 1882, Armand Peugeot launched the mass production of a grand-bi, in a workshop of 300 workers in Montbéliard. In 1886, he opened a new factory in Beaulieu-Valentigney (Doubs) which became the main production site for Peugeot Cycles. Jean-Marie Michel Liebeaux dit Mich is a French caricaturist, poster designer and designer of advertisements. The General Manufacture of Rubber and Tires A. Wolber was a French company, created by Antoine Wolber. The Wolber brand is the property of Compagnie Générale des Etablissements Michelin. Additional Details: Advertising poster designed by René Leverd in 1910 for the promotion of Gladiator brand cycles. The Gladiator Cycles company, then Gladiator-Clément (1896) is a French company manufacturing cycles and automobiles established in Pré-Saint-Gervais between 1891 and 1920. In 1895, Gladiator produced its first motorized tricycle whose combustion was based of naphtha. In 1896, Adolphe Clément, Charles Chetwynd-Talbot, and Harry John Lawson, associated with Harvey du Cros, owner of Dunlop, take stakes in the company and undertake to create a conglomerate. René Leverd is a French watercolourist, poster artist and illustrator. He received a silver medal at the Salon des artistes français of 1891, and many other awards in the salons.
