About the Item
Very beautiful poster of Thelem (Ernest BARTHÉLEMY LEM, 1869-1930) for the Peugeot cycles.
The Peugeot family began its rise to industrial power with the discovery of iron in the Doubs valley in eastern France. Initially, it produced tools. In 1885, it began manufacturing bicycles, then motorcycles and finally automobiles. This poster clearly positions Peugeot as the brand of the aristocrats and the wealthy. Here, on the immaculate grounds of a stately home, women are playing a game of lawn tennis. A dashing young man on his motorcycle lures one of the women away from the game to come and flirt. Associating wealth, style, status and sex appeal with motorcycles is a powerful advertising concept that continues to this day.

Circa 1900 Original poster for the Tillier dance Troup at the Palais de Glace
Located in PARIS, FR
The girl who has entered the theatrical profession as a child can be depended upon to lead a clean life when she grows up. She is far, far safer than the girl who enters the profession after childhood.' So wrote John Tiller, whose theatrical school produced the dancing ladies who starred in the original 'Pony Ballet' and whose troupes of 'Tiller Girls' were in great demand for shows not only in London but in Paris, Amsterdam, Turin, and New York. He and Mrs. Tiller began training youngsters at the age of nine. In the schools in London and Manchester, the girls had regular academic studies as well as dancing and were placed in Christmas pantomimes when still children. When they grew up, they were given jobs in various Tiller troupes (each managed by a mature woman who watched out for them)... [This lithograph]... was intended for all of the Tiller Troupe performances. The black type at the bottom was surprinted later to indicate, in this instance, their appearance at the Palais de Glace...

Paul Berthon - Sarah Bernhardt La Princesse Lointaine " The Faraway Princess "
By Paul Berthon
Located in PARIS, FR
Paul Emile Berthon ( 1872- 1909 ), was a French decorative artist.
He began studying painting in Villefranche. From 1893, he moved to Paris, where he attended the École normale d'enseignement du dessin. Among the courses taken at the time, those of the professor of decorative art Eugène Grasset had the greatest impact on him.
The first works of Paul Berthon (around 1896) show a style close to that of Grasset. By freeing himself from the style of his master, his own style develops based on a palette of autumnal pastels with sharp lines and contours.
This is his most famous lithograph, a portrait of Sarah Bernhardt in the title role of "La Princesse Lointaine...
