About the Item
These replicas of prints by Jean-Baptiste Le Prince, in Gold Leaf Frames, are based upon his original paintings of the French furniture in the Russian imperial palaces. Commissioned by Catherine The Great (1786-1789), his prints showcased the exquisite French furniture that had been acquired by the Russian imperial family. They depicted the intricate and ornate designs of the furniture, which were often embellished with gold leaf, precious stones, and other luxurious materials.
This art provides a glimpse into the opulence and extravagance of the Russian imperial court during the 18th and 19th centuries and are considered to be an important historical record of the French furniture industry during that time period.
