1861 Woodblock Utagawa Yoshiiku People from Foreign Lands: English Persons signed Ikkeisai Yoshiiku, publisher’s seal Maru Tetsu (Teijudo), with censor’s date seal Tori-ni, aratame (year of the tiger [1861], 2nd month, examined), ca 1861 oban tate-e 14 1/4 by 9 7/8 in., 36.2 by 25.1 cm Reference: British Museum, accession no. 1946,0413,0.14 Provenance: From the collection of Clemens Merkelbach van Enkhuizen, A well known Dutch painter and artist from Amsterdam. Merkelbach van Enkhuizen lived in one of the canal houses in Amsterdam and was an avid collection of Asian art. Additional information: Material: Paper Region of Origin: Japan Period: 19th century Decoration Type / Colour: Polychrome Condition: Genral good condition, some damage around the edges and minor staining.
