About the Item

Antique print of the Ciliwung (or Tjiliwoeng) paddle steamer, near Onrust Island. Onrust Island is one of islands in Kepulauan Seribu, Jakarta, which lies near to Angel Island or Bidadari Island, Indonesia. This print originates from 'Het Kamerlid van Berkestein in Nederlandsch-Indie.', (translation: van Berkestein, member of the Dutch Parliament in the Dutch East-Indies.) by M.T.H. Perelaer, published in Leiden, circa 1888. Artists and Engravers: M.T.H. (Michel Theophile Hubert) Perelaer (Maastricht 1831 - Den Haag 1901), also called majoor (major) Perelaer, was a Dutch writer, who was in Indonesia for years. The lithographs are after drawings by Jhr. J.C. Rappard. Condition: Fine. General age related toning and light staining and / or foxing, mostly the margins. Please study image carefully. Antique prints have long been appreciated for both their aesthetic and investment value. They were the product of engraved, etched or lithographed plates. These plates were handmade out of wood or metal, which required an incredible level of skill, patience and craftsmanship. Whether you have a house with Victorian furniture or more contemporary decor an old engraving can enhance your living space. We offer a wide range of authentic antique prints for any budget.
