About the Item

Collectible antique Art Deco hand-colored (pochoir) fashion plate image entitled “Le Retour" by one of the greatest designers and illustrators, Georges Barbier (1892-1932). Le Retour is signed GB 1923. Barbier is known as one of the leading figures in the birth of the Art Deco style and renowned for his exquisite illustrations that capture the mood, fashion and atmosphere of the roaring twenties. Le Retour depicts a male warrior wearing a winged helmet and holding a spear. A woman leans on his shoulder and the two stand on a rocky outcrop before a fire. In the left distance are two figures running beneath the moon. Also included is another Art Deco era pochoir entitled "Pétrole Hahn" by French artist, Charles Martin (1848-1934). Petrole Hahn is an original hand colored porchoir on vellum paper. It was released in a limited edition in 1919/1920 for the Parisian fashion publication "Les Feuillets d'Art" as an ad for the shampoo Petrole Hahn. The duo is beautifully custom framed and matted under plexiglass in an ornate scrolling white gold leaf frame using museum conservation type acid-free conservation materials. A pochoir is a hand-colored commercial process illustration. "Le Retour" measured approximately 6 7/8 x 10 1/2" before it was framed and matted. Fashion Plate (1 of 40). Falbalas et Fanfreluches. Almanach des modes - Paris, 1923. Petrole Hahn measured approximately 9.2" x 12.8" before it was framed and matted.
