"Dancers in Unison, " Richly-Colored, Art Deco Woodblock Print by Woman Artist

About the Item

A classic example of high style Art Deco fine art, brilliantly executed in a warm oxblood ink, this woodblock print depicts two nude female dancers, in tight synchronization, each with a pale shadow behind them -- as if there are really four dancers rather than two. Each of the figures wears nothing but a modern hair style influenced by Etruscan and Classic precedents. The artist was Loreen Wingerd, a Hoosier artist whose work was shown in the Indianapolis Museum of Art's "Painting and Woodblock Prints" exhibition in 1933. This print may have been among those exhibited. The print is on a thin, warm paper and is signed in pencil on the lower right.
