Dora Maar — Picasso Guernica Photogravure, 1937 From Verve Magazine, Framed
About the Item
Dora Maar — Guernica Photogravure, 1937
From the First Issue of Verve, Framed & Free Worldwide Shipping
An iconic visual artifact of 20th-century art history: this photogravure captures Pablo Picasso’s “Guernica” as photographed by Dora Maar in 1937. Commissioned for the Pavilion of the Spanish Republic at the Paris Exposition, Guernica remains Picasso’s most powerful anti-war statement. Dora Maar’s documentation—both of the process and the finished work—cemented her legacy as one of the era’s most influential photographers.
This print was published in the luxury art journal “Verve”, founded by Tériade, and printed by Draeger Frères in the inaugural 1937 issue. It remains one of the earliest published images of Guernica outside of exhibition settings.
