About the Item
Mezzotint engraving, 1799, The First of September, after painting by George Moreland. Moreland was a noted London landscape and genre painter. By the late 1790's he began to produce scenes of rural and bucolic life. These were popularized by mezzotints by William Ward. This is one of those engravings.
It is museum mounted with painted frame with gold bead. Period frame with black lacquer finish and gold fillet.
