The plate provides a detailed overview of crystallography and mineral formations, offering a unique combination of scientific classification and visual appeal. It would have served as an educational tool in geology and mineralogy at a time when natural sciences were becoming increasingly systematized.
The top half of the plate is dedicated to crystal structures, illustrating geometric models of fundamental crystal shapes: cubes, octahedrons, rhombohedrons, pyramids, and more complex polyhedra.
