About the Item

A fantastic and oddly alluring large lithograph in colors on wove paper is by renowned Mexican artist José Luis Cuevas (1934-2017). It is titled "Lo Feo de Este Mundo III" and is from the "Homage to Quevedo Portfolio," 1969. The work features somewhat grotesque, distorted figures in a surrealist scene possibly out of Dante's Inferno. The work is hand-pencil signed and numbered (22/100) by Cuevas within the lower image with the Collectors Press and unidentified blind stamp lower left corner, Collectors Press, pub. This print can be found in the Brooklyn Museum, The Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, The Yale University Art Gallery, and The High Museum of Art in Atlanta. Cuevas was drawn to the darker side of life. His art often depicts strange warped figures and the debasement of humanity and was frequently viewed as shocking and controversial. Today, Cuevas' works can be found in numerous prominent collections, such as The Art Institute of Chicago, The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, among others. The Jose Luis Cuevas Museum in Mexico City honors his contribution to Mexican art with a contemporary collection of his work The print is from a San Francisco Bay Area private art collection. Would be a wonderful eye-catching accent artwork in about any setting once framed. Dimensions: 22.5" high, 28.25" wide Please note that the print will be safely shipped carefully rolled in a tube for protection.

This particular image is quite rare and hard to find. A copy of this print can be found in the Museum of fine Arts in Boston. Would be a great addition to any modern Japanese print...
