Mid-19th Century Four-Color American Jacquard Coverlet
Located in Barrington, IL
An exceptional example of 19th-century American textile artistry, this signed four-color Jacquard coverlet originates from Dauphin County, Pennsylvania, and is dated 1859. Featuring a striking palette of navy blue, red, ivory, and pale green, the piece is intricately woven with fine detail and craftsmanship. The coverlet is inscribed “Michael Umbarger, Middle Paxton Township Da. Co. 1859 Amos Killinger,” honoring both the recipient and the weaver — a common yet meaningful tradition made possible by the Jacquard loom, which allowed personalization through the intricate weaving process.
Woven by hand, this textile exemplifies the popularity and artistry of American coverlets in the mid-1800s, prized both for their functional warmth and decorative value. Whether draped over a bed, displayed as a wall hanging, or styled in a heritage-rich interior, this coverlet brings a unique narrative and historic charm to any refined setting.
Perfect for collectors, designers, and decorators seeking rare and storied textiles to elevate traditional or eclectic interiors.

Yei Navajo Figural Double-Sided Flat Weave Wall Hanging, 1930 Round Heads
Located in Basingstoke, Hampshire
A Yei Navajo Figural double-sided flat woven wall hanging - circa 1930. Displaying five standing figures on an deep speckled grey ground, framed by a red border.
The Yei iconography is related to Navajo religious sandpaintings. Navajo religion has a reverence for nature and is based on maintaining a balance in the universe. It was believed that there was a sense of harmony needed to maintain a healthy life. Should an individual do something to upset this balance, then it was believed that an illness might befall them. Much like in the modern-day, a medicine man was hired to help regain this harmony. The remedy involved a combination of chanting, herbal medicines and a sandpainting ritual. Various coloured sands were sprinkled on the ground until they formed a specific Yei (holy person), based on the god he was trying to summon. When the sandpainting was completed, it was sanctified by spreading corn pollen over it.
Once the sacred sandpainting had served its purpose, it was erased. To save it or reproduce its imagery was dangerous and could bring serious grief to anyone who retained the image.
During the 1890s, the Navajos phased out blanket weaving in favour of rugs. There was strong demand from the vast migration of settlers, building homes by the thousands, who needed something to cover their floors. The first Navajo rug depicting holy people...

Handwoven Wool Rug / Kilim, Grey & Jewel Tone, Natural Dye, by Andrew Boos
By Andrew Boos
Located in Brooklyn, NY
This rug is a one of a kind heirloom piece. Inspired by light and movement, the asymmetrical design is meant to enhance the flow of any space. With references to both Art Deco and contemporary design elements, this piece will stand out as an addition to any interior space.
Andrew Boos seeks to redefine what a rug is. His work is not meant to be the static anchor of a room, rather it is a new architectural element. As usable art, his rugs encourage the flow of movement through a space. They redirect the focus from 2d static wall decorations to an element that creates an immersive environment. His rugs become a focal point, and invite you to enter and experience the space in a way that traditional rugs cannot.
The entire process of creating this rug was done in the artist's Brooklyn studio. From dying the yarn, to weaving and finishing the piece. No part of the process is outsourced. Each work produced by the artist is a bespoke heirloom piece. The rug is woven with traditional Kilim techniques, using interlocking yarn to add strength and stability and is strong enough to withstand daily traffic. As a handmade piece this rug may include minor imperfections and variations, representing the true nature of the natural materials and techniques. The back of the rug has been finished so the piece may be reversed.
Each color included in this rug was hand-dyed by the artist using natural dyes to achieve the subtle variety in tones. The greys were created using logwood, tannin and iron. The plum and magenta shades of purple were created with cochineal, a small insect native to Mexico. Cochineal has been an integral part of many traditional fiber arts...
