Dan Gauthier Stoneware Slip Decorated Mashiko Iron and Enamel Decorated Charger

About the Item

I corresponded with Don in Kansas City and he identified it as his work from the early 80's. He shifted to furniture making in the 90's and has prominently exhibited at the Grovewood Gallery at the Grove Park Inn and elsewhere for years. This one is a cone 10 reduction with Mashiko stone iron glaze/ white glaze panels and overglaze enameling. His ceramic work is amazing and the furniture equally so. The Asian influences on his art are a compelling testament to the integration of superior craftsmanship and timeless design. In particular, this manifestation of the Japanese Mingei tradition is as stunning as any work done in the U.S. Please note the scale... it's destined to be a treasured and featured appointment or exhibit! I will include copies of the email correspondence with Don with the charger when it is shipped.
