Carl Harry Stalhane Designhuset Reduction Red Figural Porcelain Bowl, 1980's

About the Item

Carl Harry Stalhane opened Designhuset in Sweden in 1973 after decades as as an important artist at Rorstrand. This hand thrown and hand decorated porcelain bowl features a copper reduction glaze that is particularly elusive at high temperatures. Presumably, the human figures circling the interior were accomplished by coupling wax resist with the reduction copper glaze. The depth and scale of the bowl makes it perfect for beautiful but functional use in a mid century modern or Swedish design household. If not simply displayed as art, one might use it for popcorn or as a small punch bowl, for instance. It is fully marked with the DesignHuset monogram and also signed in full. The 60 on the base does not indicate the year of production but the: 0 may represent 1980.
