About the Item
A pair of majolica glazed French Morning Glory wall pockets, Fives-Lille, circa 1890.
Fives-Lille was founded by the Belgian potter, Antione Gustave De Bruyn. He opened his pottery manufacture at Fives-Lille, in the northern part of France in 1864, and added majolica glazed wares in 1887. He was awarded the silver medal at the Universal Exhibition in Paris in 1889.
The pair of hanging vases, or wall pockets, are made of glazed earthenware, and modeled as a large deep pink Convolvulus Morning Glory flower in full bloom.
At the front of each vase is an applied butterfly, backed by plump green leaves.
The stems are colored a deeper green than the leaves, each pocket also shows two tightly closed flower buds.
Lovely gradation from the deep dusky pink of the interior of the flower, fading to a paler pink into yellow at the base of the flowers exterior.
Beautiful mold work, amazing painted details.
14.5 in. L x 7 in. W, projecting 5.5 in. from the wall.
Pierced and wired for hanging.
So nice to have the opposite facing pair!
The faint incised anchor mark on verso, with the mold number 3010
In incredible condition with the exception of a teeny nip to the bottom left tip of one butterfly wing. Really nothing to detract.

English Minton Aesthetic Movement Majolica Nut, Leaf & Vine Pitchers, a Pair
By Minton
Located in Philadelphia, PA
Attributed to Minton pottery in Staffordshire, England, a scarce sized set of majolica glazed pitchers in the Palissy style, circa 1870s.
The Aesthetic Period pitchers are molded with a raised nut vine pattern with leaves in light and dark green, and closed buds. The vine handle is ‘held’ in place with green shoots, the tight buds are glazed in cream encased in light spring green leaves. The body is finished in an iridescent brown, the interior in a beautiful turquoise. A turquoise glazed underside.
The larger jug is impressed with the number two, possibly referring to size, as this is the middle size of what would have been a set of three graduated pitchers...
